30 Apr Secret ingredient in these Hakka teacakes…

Kathie trying out the locally made Hakka snacks… does anyone know the secret ingredient to these?

We ran a very successful group tour in Tai O last July which was so much fun, we became one of the local villagers!

A summer group tour is something we run each year – we currently have a Hong Kong Island tour running for a great overview of the city, come join us if you can 😉

They contain a herb called Chinese fever vine/skunk vine or as the Hakka call it chicken poop vine “because the leaves emit a sulphuric odour when crushed”.
The cakes “directly translated from the Hakka dialect” are called chicken poop cakes. Don’t worry they don’t contain poop.
    Just some peanuts…

Yes correct! They are called Chicken Poop dumplings (also the colour is akin to chicken poop) but they taste great and the name doesn’t seem to put anyone off!
