Robert

Originally from the Netherlands, Robert first began visiting Hong Kong more than 40 years ago and made the city his permanent home in 1991. Having experienced Hong Kong’s evolution from the comparatively gentler pace of the 1980s and 1990s to today’s fast-moving global city, he has a particular appreciation for the contrasts that define it: colonial façades and glass towers, traditional markets and sleek malls, enduring festivals and constant innovation.

Robert’s tours reveal Hong Kong as a city of living layers. He brings its history, neighbourhoods and everyday rhythm into focus—whether exploring the colonial echoes of Central, the wartime stories of Kowloon City, the cultural energy of Sham Shui Po, hidden temples, busy markets or the changing skyline—so guests can understand not only what they are seeing, but how the city became what it is today.

He guides in English, Dutch and German, but has also has a strong command of the local language, Cantonese. His long-term local perspective and multilingual guiding align especially well with Hong Kong Greeters’ tailored private-tour approach.
