There’s more to Macau than just casinos – and with this fully customisable private tour, we’ll be lifting the lid on what makes this East-meets-West destination quite so unique.

A former Portuguese colony located just sixty miles from Hong Kong, Macau is the fascinating result of over 400 years of cultural exchange between the western world and Chinese civilisation. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this truly is a city of contrasts – where pastel-coloured colonial shophouses and quaint cobblestoned streets sit alongside traditional Chinese temples and glittering five-star hotels.

From the comfort of an air-conditioned car, we’ll be taking you off Macau’s beaten track to explore some of the lesser-known places that make the city so special. Highlights of this day trip with a difference include:

  • A walk around the Ruins of St. Paul’s, Macau’s most famous landmark, plus other historical sites Na Tcha Temple, Monte Fort and a section of Old City Walls
  • A chance to soak up Macau’s rich architectural heritage with visits to Our Lady of Penha Church, Mandarin’s House, Lilau Square, Moorish Barracks, A-Ma Temple and Guia Fortress
  • Delicious lunch at a traditional Portuguese or Chinese dim sum restaurant
  • A lip-smacking taster of the city’s famous Portuguese egg tarts
  • Get up close and personal with some new furry friends at the Giant Panda Pavilion
  • A drive-through tour along the dazzling Cotai Strip, with photo stops and the opportunity to explore the splendour of The Venetian Macao hotel

Itinerary

As your go-to friend in Hong Kong and Macau, our qualified guides aka “Greeters” are passionate about these cities and their history, and are delighted to share their knowledge with our guests. Please note that all food and drink, and transport to and from Macau are at visitors’ own expense; if you’d like us to arrange Macau ferry tickets to and from Hong Kong, please mention this at the time of booking.

This bespoke tour offers the perfect introduction to Macau, led by a licensed guide. You’ll learn more about this unusual city’s rich cultural heritage – the result of traditional Chinese roots blended with 400 years as a Portuguese colony, followed by its modern rebirth as the “Las Vegas of Asia”. We’ll be covering all of Macau’s most famous landmarks alongside some of our favourite lesser-known spots, with plenty of pit-stops for delicious local eats… and all from the air-conditioned comfort of your own private car.

Your day begins with a private car transfer from either your accommodation in Macau or Macau Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal. From there, it really is up to you – this tour has been deliberately designed to be fully customisable, and the choices are endless!

Nevertheless, we believe that no trip to Macau is complete without a visit to the Ruins of St. Paul’s, the city’s most famous sight. All that remains of this 17th-century Catholic church is a beautiful baroque façade overlooking the city’s historic centre; climb the steps to take a closer look at its ornate decorations, which feature a one-of-a-kind melange of Asian and Western elements, including biblical imagery, six Chinese lions, nautical motifs, Chinese characters and even a seven-headed hydra!

This is also the ideal opportunity to explore the many fascinating landmarks that have earned the city UNESCO World Heritage Site status. A melting pot of contrasting architectural styles, we’ll wander down charming cobble-stoned streets, soaking up the city’s enchanting mix of candy-coloured shophouses, European-style villas, ancient Chinese temples, beautiful Christian churches and captivating military relics. Our exploration of the area known as the Historic Centre of Macau includes highlights like Guia Fortress, a 17th-century colonial military fort, chapel and lighthouse; Moorish Barracks, originally built in 1874 to house Indian soldiers stationed in Macau; Monte Fort, built to defend the city hundreds of years ago and now home to some of the most stunning sunset views across Macau; and A-Ma Temple, one of the oldest Chinese temples in Macau that is thought to have given the city its name.

For a taste of modern-day Macau, we’ll take you on a drive along the dazzling Cotai Strip, home to many of the city’s most extravagant hotel-casino resorts – complete with brilliant neon lights, dancing water displays, cable cars, gondolier rides and even a towering replica of the Eiffel Tower! For something a little cuddlier, how about a trip to meet Macau’s very own giant pandas? Located in the natural beauty of Seac Pai Van Park, the Giant Panda Pavilion offers the opportunity to get up close and personal with a number of adorable furry friends, including rare giant and red pandas, plus monkeys, peacocks and flamingos.

And of course, we’ll ensure you get your fair share of flavour-filled local treats too! We’ll arrange a delicious lunch at either a traditional Portuguese or Chinese dim sum restaurant, depending on your preference, alongside a number of scrumptious street eats along the way… warm-out-the-oven Portuguese egg tarts are our personal favourite!

As mentioned, this tour is completely customisable, from the tour duration down to the destinations we visit – simply let us know how you’d like best to spend your day, and we’ll make it happen in significant style! We’re confident that whatever you choose, we can guarantee you an action-packed day trip that highlights the very best of magical Macau, and proves once and for all that there’s more to this unforgettable destination than just casinos!
